Christopher’s evolving relationship with his father is one of
the central dramas of the novel. Pick three scenes—one
from the beginning, one from the middle, one from the end (up to page 164) —in which Christopher interacts with his
father, and discuss what each scene reveals about their

ReplyDeleteA scene that shows part of Christopher’s evolving relationship with his father is that his dad beats him when he tries to find out who killed Wellington. His dad gave away that he was the killer of Wellington by not saying it, but by yelling at his son, who’s trying to solve the murder mystery. This scene develops Christopher's dad and Christopher because the dad is a very strict parent and Christopher is a very interesting individual. This helps the plot because now it’s easier to figure out who did what in the murder mystery. This book shows that Christopher and his dad’s relationship is very up and down.
Another scene in the middle is when Christopher’s dad said I’m sorry to Christopher. That helps the relationship between the two characters because Christopher is scared that his dad is going to kill him because of him(Christopher) trying to solve the murder mystery of Wellington. That adds another reason why Christopher wants to run away and live with his mom. He wants to live with his mom because he’s scared of his dad. This scene impacts the plot because Christopher’s dad isn’t going to let his son know that he killed Wellington. On the other hand, Christopher wants to get away from his dad. This shows that their relationship is all over the place.
The scene at the end of pages 84-164 is when the cops come looking for Christopher at the train station. Christopher’s dad instructed the police to go and find Christopher before he gets on the train and leaves for the town where his mom lives. This shows that Christopher’s dad is finally trying to look out for his son all this time throughout the book. This scene helps the plot because Christopher might tell the cops about Wellington’s mysterious killing and the cops are going to go out and find the killer, which after all this time seems to be Christopher’s dad. This shows that their relationship is very different than what people expect a typical father-son relationship.
Christopher and his father have a very odd relationship. It seems to be very friendly, but at the same time it can seem tense and harsh. At the beginning, they seem to have a decent relationship where his father backs him up. This is shown when Christopher is taken to the police station after hitting the officer. His father came into the station very angry, and he asked where his son was and seemed quite tense. After they were finished at the station, they went back home and Christopher and his father talked about the incident, and Christopher’s father told him to stay out of trouble. This is really what any parent should say (or good parent that is), but as we read more of the story we see why he really wanted this.
ReplyDeleteAnother scene involving Christopher’s relationship with his father is when they have another altercation about Christopher’s investigating. His father did not like this at all and he has a good reason to as you read further into the story. This is somewhat like a foreshadow because his father is showing some anger and he is hiding something. Another foreshadow in this scene is when Christopher brings up Mr. Shears and Mrs. Shears. These two characters play a role in this mess between Christopher’s father, mother and Christopher himself. Christopher mentioning Mr. Shears makes his father irate and this hints at another event later discussed in the story.
A third scene is when Christopher has had enough and decided to run away from his father. His father had been hiding letters from his mother and the truth about who killed Wellington. This pushed Christopher off the brink and he wanted nothing to do with his father. In fact, he was scared of his father and referred to him as a murderer. His father tried to be very nice and calm about all of this but Christopher could not understand this. He was so focused on the fact that his father killed Wellington. In my opinion, his father did a great job handling this. He stayed as calm as he could and he was very caring toward his son.
All three of these scenes create a picture of the relationship between Christopher and his father. Although this picture may be blurry, it still provides a small background and base for an opinion on this relationship. Their relationship is not an easy one. It is a constant struggle due to misunderstanding. Christopher’s mental disability makes it very difficult as well. He receives everything straightforward and cannot see the reason why his father did what he did. This is what creates a difficult relationship between the both of them.

ReplyDeleteChristopher's relationships with his father vary throughout the novel so far. In the beginning of the book his father seems to be very caring for his son, for example when Christopher hits the cop his father comes to the police station and picks him up without questioning him very much. In the middle of the reading Mrs. Gilson assigned Christopher's dad was being very protective of him, I believe this is why his dad hit him. His dad doesn't want him to do anymore looking for who killed Wellington because he wants Christopher to be safe and forget about the death. Christopher loves solving mysteries and doesn't want to stop trying to solve this one. Towards the end of what we have read so far, the relationship between Christopher and his dad is very shaky or unstable. the dad doesn't really know what Christopher wants to do about his life. Christopher found the letters from his mom that IS alive and also found out that his dad killed Wellington. His dad kind of feels bad for Christopher because of this. All these big moments in the book shape out the character of Christopher and really bring out who he really is.

ReplyDeleteThe relationship of Christopher and his father changes many times throughout the story. Christopher does not care about or have emotions for many people but his father is an exception. This relationship is were we really get to know Christopher. Towards the beginning of the book their relationship was solid. There was not much drama between them except for a couple arguments. Christopher's father always understood him for example once when they were having dinner Christopher's father separated his food because he knew Christopher is more comfortable when things are organized. Later in the book Christopher finds out that his mother did not die and his father was lying to him. Christopher hates lies because it is difficult for him to detect them. The relationship between him and his father takes a turn for the worse here because there is a lack of trust. Christopher's mother cheated on her husband with Mr. Shears so we understand why he does not want to take about Mr. Shears. The father towards the end of our reading rebuilds the relationship with his son. Christopher trust his father again. There is not a specific event but over time Christopher understands his father and why he lied.

Christopher's relationship with his father is quickly falling apart throughout the entire novel. They both have conflicting personalities toward each other and Christopher is a hard boy to deal with period. In the beginning of the novel one of the first major events where Christopher and his father fight was when Christopher tried to be a detective. Christopher's father did not like this and yelled at him to stay out of other people business. Christopher was upset by this because all he wanted to do was help. This shows that Christopher is on a short leash with his father and could easily upset him.
Another event that shows Christopher and his father's conflict in the novel is when Christopher goes around the neighborhood being a detective. Even after his father told him not to he when around asking neighbors if they had seen anything strange and records what they say in a book. Later Christopher's father finds his detective book and becomes furious and hits Christopher, hurting him badly. This confliction between the two really hurt their trust and relationship with both. Christopher's father has a short temper and sometimes can't control his anger
One of the Most astonishing events that happened with Christopher and his father was when Christopher found out his mother wasn't dead. Christopher finds letters from his mother in his father's closet and realizes that his mom is still alive. Christopher feels sick and and leaves his house that night sleeps by his shed and then runs away in the morning. Christopher obviously at this point doesn't trust his father and will probably try and find his mothe
The first scene I believe demonstrates a relationship between them is when his father picks him up from the police station. He is very nice about it and understanding. He completely believes Christopher that he didn't kill the dog and is not angry at all. Then things change quickly as soon as Christopher insists on finding who killed the dog. He starts to yell at Christopher and even swerves the car. He seems to have a very short temper with Christopher and gets frustrated that he won’t listen to him. This definitely makes the hunt for who killed the dog more interesting and more dangerous.
ReplyDeleteThe next scene I believe demonstrates their relationship perfectly is when Christopher and his father get in a fight once father finds his book about his investigation. Although it never said it because Christopher's memory was not good it is assumed that he hit Christopher because of the bruises. This again demonstrates the short temperateness of the dad and that he is willing to do anything to get Christopher to stop looking for the “dog killer”. This helps move the plot along and make it even more exciting by putting even more danger into the hunt with having to sneak around his father's office.
The next scene that demonstrates their relationship on a softer side is when his father reveals that he killed the dog and why he killed the dog. This really demonstrates the friendship side of this relationship and the fact that his dad really does seem to care about Christopher. This also tells us that the dad really does have anger issues because he killed a dog. This conversation in my opinion brings them closer together because of the trust shared between them. This moves the plot forward because now we wait and see what Christopher does.

ReplyDeleteChristopher’s relationship with his father is really odd when his father receives a call about him poking around Mrs. Shears garden, he reacts in a very verbally aggressive way. It is obvious that his father loves him, but he has a lot of difficulty dealing with his son. He maybe doesn't know how to treat him and has difficulty expressing his emotion cause his son can not really read other people's feelings. In this scene Christopher is relentless on finding that dogs killer when in the scheme of things it’s not Christophers problem to deal with. Which his father is trying to explain to him, where in the end he makes him promise not to look for the dog, but that promise really isn’t kept.

When Christopher’s father returns home from work he gives Christopher quite the surprise when he comes home. Christopher’s book of writing was found by his dad, and he was not to happy to find what was in it. The book contained notes about him talking to Mrs.Alexander about Mrs.Shears. The father was not happy to say the least, he swore and swore at his son expressing his anger in a very vocal way. His father uses strong language and sarcasm to display anger to his son which may not be the best way to show it. This relationship makes him find alternative ways to still look for wellington's killer but in theory he is not breaking his promise, but it all ultimately ends up backfiring on him in the end.

In this scene the truth comes out and the father really shows a side of him that cares a lot for Christopher and isn't always yelling at him. He reveals that he killed the dog and the truth about his mother, leaving and the role Mrs. Shears played in helping him recover from his wife's affair. This all puts Christopher in a frightful mood though because he thinks his father is a cold blooded killer and he needs to get out of that house immediately.He is now trying to find a way out of living with his father after this information is revealed. Which now pushes him to try and find a new home away from his maybe a little too aggressive father.

ReplyDeleteChristopher's and his father have a very dynamic relationship throughout the novel. The first we see of the relationship is with him bailing Christopher out of jail. We can see that their relationship is fairly normal he seems like a normal dad that looks out for his son. He was looking out for his kid when the father yelled at the police to get his kid out of jail. Although we can see that he is very explosive and has a temper. Overall in the beginning we know he tries to be a good father but has a hard time understanding Christopher.
Later on in the story we see Christopher and his father's relationship changing. Christopher hates lying and we learn this very early one in the story. We learn that his father lied to Christopher about his mother dying when she actually didn't. Christopher now doesn't trust his father and that really hurt their relationship. His father only lied to protect Christopher from the truth but he doesn't care.
Where I am in the story currently is when Christopher finds out his father was the killer. This is huge and really damages the relationship between father and son. Their relationship was already weak but now it's destroyed Christopher doesn't know how to deal with these emotions of hate he feels for his father after he found out he killed the dog. We can see throughout the story the relationship goes from bad to worse.
At the beginning Christopher’s father took him to the zoo for apologize his mistake. From this scene I think Christopher will think his father love him Although his father beat him. Then this happening show to us about Christopher is a native or pute child. He didn’t keep it in his mind just because that is his father. And then it express Christopher was love his father too. And also set the stage for the development of next scene.
ReplyDeleteAbout the second one is in the middle. In a windfall Christopher found a letter about his mother didn’t died and his father lied to him. After that his father said sorry to him. In this event we can see how his father loved him. In my opinion his father didn’t want to lay to him. Just because his father know Christopher was still a child. He didn’t want to make some bad impression in his childhood. In other hand, show us about how Christopher trust his father. If he didn’t trust his father, he will not be angry as that much.
The last one is in the end of it. After Christopher found out the trues. He can not accept that, then took his father’s money want to go to London to find his mother by himself. And then when his father know that. First of all is not angry is worried and as quickly as possible to find his son. So, during this novel the author show the love between each characters again and again. Use a lot scenes to link the whole article. And also set the stage for what will happen after that.

In The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime Christopher’s relationship with his father has been up and down up to this point. In the beginning, Christopher’s father was very caring and nice toward his son. Then, the relationship kind of takes a turn. When the father finds out that Christopher had been doing detective work, he hits him. I do not think this is because he is a bad or violent person. I think it is because he is being protective of Christopher and he cares about him. He is just trying to protect him from the truth because father knew it would hurt Christopher. Towards the end of the part we read, I think Christopher’s father is really worried about him. He does not know where her is and what is going on. I do not think the relationship between the two will ever be the same after Christopher found the letters from his mother that his dad had been hiding.

ReplyDeleteWhen the cops are called on Christopher in the beginning of the book, his father seemed mad, he was yelling at the police officers because he was unable to see his son and they would not tell him why Christopher was locked up. By the way that his father is reacting you can tell that he cares deeply for his son. Even though he does not always show it. His father was trying to show Christopher that he does love him, but for some parents it is hard to show your children that you love them, so you have to show it in a different way. Even if that different way is yelling at them. Another part of the book is when, Christopher's father finds his book. And sees that Christopher was not listening to him, to stop investigating the death of the dog. His father did get mad, and his anger went too far when he hit Christopher. Even though Christopher does not realize it, His father is trying to protect him from knowing who really killed Wellington and where his mother really went. And when his father did reveal what happened with Wellington and where his mother went, Christopher had a completely different thought about his father. All his father was trying to do was protect Christopher. Throughout the book, Christopher's father shows love towards him and it progresses as the book goes on. Even though Christopher does not like what his father is doing, since he is a child, he does not realize what is actually going on.

ReplyDeleteThroughout the story, Christopher and his father’s relationship drastically changes. Christopher’s father started off the story as being patient, but soon enough it all builds up and he loses it at times. First, on page 16 is when Christopher got bailed out of jail by his father. His father wanted to see his son and was very upset that police brought him to jail. When Christopher stepped out of the cell, his father spread his fingers to show that they love each other. On the way home, Christopher’s father kindly told him he needs to stay out of people's business so he doesn’t get in trouble anymore. Christopher’s father was displaying how he cares for Christopher and he said things in a way that Christopher could comprehend so he would remember it in the future.
ReplyDeleteChristopher’s relationship with his father begins to change starting on page 48 when Christopher got home from trying to find out who killed the dog. He told his father what he had been doing, and his father was quite upset. He yelled at him reminding him to stay out of other people's business and that Christopher could never say Mr.Shears name in the house again. Christopher was confused because he didn’t know what he had done wrong, and his father was not explaining well to him. Christopher’s father was beginning to lose his patience as he yelled at Christopher for trying to solve the mystery of who killed Wellington.
The biggest point of change in the story would be when Christopher found the letters sitting in his father’s room starting at page 93. Christopher found 43 letters written by his mother whom which his father said died of a heart attack years ago. Christopher was obviously shocked and confused. He was reading the letters in his room when his father came in and found him. His father was shocked and didn’t seem to know what to do. Christopher’s father apologized multiple times and promised he would always be honest with Christopher from then forward. This was when Christopher found out his father had killed Wellington. Christopher then grew very upset and frightened of his father. This had damaged their relationship and Christopher may hold his anger and fright towards his father forever. Christopher and his father went from being shown as close and loving for one another, to his father being dishonest and scaring Christopher away from home.
Because of Christopher’s disability, his relationship with his father isn’t like other father and son. In the beginning of the book, when father get Christopher out of the police station, he didn’t give hugs to him as comfort like other parents usually do, instead he just touched Christopher’s with his finger. This shows that the relationship they having aren’t normal; but at least now, Christopher still trust father.
ReplyDeleteFirst thing happened at the beginning that changed their relationship is when father got angry about Christopher detecting about the murder of the dog, and told him to stop doing that. Christopher’s curiosity didn’t stop because what father told him, and he kept on going and decided not to tell father his secret. This action started the corruption of trust between Christopher and father, it also created more issues in the future.
Second thing happened that changed their relationship is when father found out about the secret book Christopher have been writing. Father was super mad because of Christopher’s behavior of not listening to him. He took away the book with all the evidences Christopher have found about the murderer. Christopher was out of control and father hit him and knocked him out to stop him. This event had further damage on the trust between Christopher and father, and because father hid the book, the story will move on to something more intense.
Third event, sadly Christopher found letter of mom while he was looking for his secret book. He read all the letter and found out that mom was not dead, and father have been lying to him. He got really sick and refuse to talk to father. Then father made him worst decision to tell the truth that he killed Wellington. For a kid like Christopher, it’s hard to understand how other people really trying to do or to say, he interpret the truth that father told as father killed wellington and father is going to kill him to. Now trust between Christopher and father have completely corrupted. Christopher decided to leave father for his own safety and try to find mother in London, this bring the story to a further plot.

His father tries to be very calm and patient but it sometimes does not work.This is demonstrated in the first scene when Christopher reacts with his father is when his father gets upset with him for being a detective. One day his father comes home and finds Christopher’s book on the table. He asks Christopher what it is and why he continued to be a detective even though he told Christopher to stop. His father starts to yell and Christopher became scared. When Christopher became scared, he hit his dad because he did not know how else to react. Then his dad went outside and threw Christopher’s book away. This scene shows that their relationship is not always perfect. Although they both try to make things work, sometimes they lose their temper. This scene allows the plot to move forward because it makes the audience wonder what will happen next.
The second scene is when his father takes Christopher to the zoo. This happens after they fight about Christopher’s book. Father decided to show Christopher that he was sorry by taking him to the zoo. At the restaurant in the zoo, father tells Christopher that he is very sorry for what he said and that he loves Christopher very much. He tells Christopher that he did not mean to get upset with him. This scene shows the audience that even though Christopher and his father fight, they still love each other. Also, this changes the mood to a happier feeling because Christopher and his father are getting along.
The third scene is when father sees Christopher reading the letters from his mom. The father apologizes for what he did and tries to explain what happened, but Christopher is too upset to focus on what he is saying. Christopher also finds out that his father killed Wellington and cannot trust his father anymore. He believes that if his father can kill the dog, then his father can kill him. This motivates Christopher to run away to his mother. The relationship between the father and Christopher is very odd now. Christopher has no trust for his father so he leaves. On the other hand, his father is very concerned and worried for Christopher. This scene leaves the audience with suspense of what is soon to come.
Christopher seems to be abscessed with the murder for Wellington, which his father does not support. When his father finds out that Christopher has been investigating the crime he tells him to forget about it and to stay out of other people’s business. But Chris does not listen and goes behind his back to keep looking for clues which shows us that Chris is able to betray his father.

After he leaves it on the counter and loses track of time and his father comes home and finds it and over reacts. He hits Christopher which makes him be fearful of his father. In order to try to make this better with his son father takes Christopher to the zoo.
Christopher begins to look around the house for his book but in turn he finds some letters from his “ dead “ mother. He begins to read them in order to make sense of it. When his father finds that he has seen the letters he tells him everything that had happened, even admitting to killing Wellington, he tells him that his mother had not died but had just left them. Christopher is in shock and does not say anything for a long time but when he comes to his senses he thinks that the best option is to run away from home. He thinks that is his father would lie about his mom and kill Wellington that he might try and kill him and he does not feel safe so he leaves and tries to go and visit his mother

The relationship between Christopher and his Father is in the beginning of the book really good, Christopher lives alone with his Father but that is alright because he really like his dad. They talk and they live good together, they know how the other one acts and what he likes and what not.They also trust in each other, and help each other. A good example is when the Father picks his son from the police station in the middle of the night, and he was not really angry and understood that he hit the policemen because he knows that Christopher does not like to be touched.
In the middle of the book the relationship is still good between Christopher and his Father but that does not hold on a long time. The two were fighting because Christopher tried to find the murder of the dog and he wrote a book with his detective work. When the Father found the book he was angry and got into a fight with Christopher, he grabbed him and he hit Christopher. From this moment the relationship was not in the best condition, but Christopher understood why his dad hit him because he was angry and that is ok.
In the last scene when Christopher found the book with some letters in the clothed from his dad and read them he could not trust his Father with anything, because he lied that Christopher's Mother died from a heart attack. When his dad came home and saw his son lying on the bed and saw the opened letters he cleaned him up from his sick and then he had to tell the truth to Christopher and he told him that he killed the neighbors dog. From that moment the relationship was broken, Christopher could not trust his Father anymore and he slept the night outside in the garden. The next day Christopher decided to go to his Mother to London because he is too frightened to live with his dad and that is a big sign that the relationship is broken.
Since the beginning of the book when Christopher had gotten arrested he has had the same relationship with his father until he and his father got into a little fight and then his father “threw” his journal away then he knew his father wouldn't have done that so Chris started snooping around in his dad's room to find his journal then he found something more which was a bunch of letters from his mother that his father had been hiding from him.
ReplyDeleteThen some time after Christopher finds the letters his dad tells him that he killed Wellington, and how his mother is still alive and that she had some things that weren't very nice to father and how he was hurt from it. In this scene Christopher felt lost, betrayed, and wanted to find his mother to see her and wanted to go live with her in london it seemed.
Once Christopher has left home or ran away from his father he was on a train hiding from a police officer that was searching for him, but he managed to stay hidden. The fact that his father is trying to get him back shows he cares for christopher but also seems like he is still hiding something from him about his mother and Christopher is determined to see his mother.

ReplyDeleteChristopher and his father have a very odd relationship, it is loving but it is also very harsh. Christopher has hit his father and his father has grabbed Christopher and has also been very harsh on him verbally. This is shown throughout the book as Christopher and his dad go through phases. One example of then being on good terms and his father caring for him would be when Christopher get into trouble with the police and ends up in that the jail. Christopher's father rushes to the jail and is very angry with the people at the police station. This shows how much his dad really cares for Christopher and doesn't want him to be scared or in trouble. After they get home Christopher's father talked with Christopher about what happened and tells him to not do stuff like that because he doesn't want him to get into more trouble. This is the first time Christopher gets into trouble for his investigation of who killed Wellington. He gets into trouble for it again a little later in the book also. We later find out that this was a foreshadow to the fact that his father did kill Wellington and didn't want his son to find out.
Another time that Christopher and his father interacted was when Christopher asked about Mr. And Mrs. Shears. Christopher's father got very upset when Christopher brought this up and got extremely upset with him. This is an example of when his father was verbally mean to Christopher which also foreshadows that his wife and Mr. Shears had an affair. Christopher didn't know of the affair so he didn't understand that it was a bad thing to bring up Mr. Shears. Christopher didn't understand why his father was so upset with him but later in the story when Mrs. Alexander explains what had happened Christopher understand why his father was so upset.
The final time that Christopher and his father “interact” would be when Christopher runs away because he is afraid of his father and what he might do to him. Christopher is also very upset that his father hid the letters that his mother wrote and didn't understand why he would do this. Since he discovered this all at once it was a lot for him to take in and he decided that he didn't want to be part of his father's life anymore and wanted to go to his mother. Christopher feels that his father lies too much and he doesn't like lying therefore he doesn't like his father. But, while Christopher is going through all of this his father remains relatively calm. This is a theme throughout the book that Christopher's father stays calm during big events such as this or Christopher being brought to jail but acts out due to small things such as Christopher's investigating.
Their relationship is very complicated and can not be fully described with words but if one looks at their actions they will see a common pattern among how Christopher and his father handle different situations. Christopher and his father are very different from each other almost opposites, especially in the way they handle different situations. But through the way they handle the situations the story develops and continues to stay interesting.

ReplyDeleteWhen the book begins, the reader can immediately see that Christopher and his father have a unique connection. Being that they live with each other by themselves, it is often just the two of them alone with only the other to keep them company. Yet while their relationship is strong, the reader can see that it begins to taper as the book progresses. While strong initially, we see that the relationship isn’t quite what it seems.
ReplyDeleteWhen we first meet Christopher’s father, he is picking Christopher up from the police station. At that time he is, while a tad bit angry, still consoling and kind to Christopher. It shows that even in the face of trouble, his father is there for him, understanding him and comprehending his inability to truly make sense of certain things. The scene sets into motion the dark truth that is hidden behind this relationship between Christopher and his father, a truth his father never wanted him to know.
The first portion of this truth comes in the form of an “argument” between the two individuals. Christopher keeps digging into the mystery of who killed Wellington, even after his father forbad him from doing so. After discovering Christopher’s secret detective work, Mr. Boone does something very surprising. He loses his temper, and from what the reader knows, he hits Christopher upside the head. This act shows that Christopher's father is not as kind-hearted and patient with Christopher as we may assume. This lack of patience over the matter develops the father as a prime suspect for the initial plotline of the book, with his relentless attempts to drive Christopher away from the mystery. It also begins the slow departure of Christopher from his father and their now decaying relationship.
That initial action set into motion Christopher’s eventual discovery of much more than he had planned on uncovering. The loss of his book sent him looking for it in his father’s room, which led to the discovery of the letters and of his mother’s true fate. All of this resulted in the confrontation between the two, where Christopher’s father admits to keeping the letters and killing Wellington. This severs any and every tie the two had between them previously, as Christopher now fears his father to the point of death. His father also proves to not be the loving and caring father he was originally made out to be, but rather secretive and angry with his misfortune. While all these character developments are taking place, the plot makes the final major advancement, with Christopher making the decision that he can no longer trust his father and must go to London to find his mother. The relationship all but dies, and the connection that had seemed so strong between the two is lost, all over a few lies.

The relationship between Christopher and his father is very much a rollercoaster. Like anyone else, Christopher’s father, can often lose his patience. He often times will lose his cool when Christopher does something he does not like, or when Christopher repeats this behavior. However, Christopher’s father has a neverending love for Christopher and even when Christopher behaves in ways he does not like, he still loves him regardless of his behavior. In the very beginning of the book when Christopher gets “arrested”, his father comes and picks him up. Christopher states that from the holding cell he can hear his father shouting, asking where his son was. This shows that his father is caring of his son and would do almost anything for him. When Christopher’s father eventually gets to Christopher in the holding cell, he is happy to see him safe and they do a form of affection, which Christopher describes as a hand-hug type of thing. This is event in the beginning of the book is where the relationship between the two is the strongest, and from there it becomes worse and worse as the time goes on.
ReplyDeleteChristopher has multiple relationships in the book, one including his teacher, Siobhan. Siobhan is a mysterious character because she never really appears in the story except for when Christopher is talking about school. Siobhan urges Christopher to write down his thoughts and emotions, thus the book. When Christopher’s father finds the book, the two of them end up getting into a little scrap. Christopher attempts to walk away from his father after he warns Christopher about his behavior. He grabs Christopher by the wrist, in which Christopher responds by starting to flail. Christopher ends up hitting his father, and in return his father grabs the book, goes outside to the backyard and throws the book away in the trash can. This is one of the examples in which Christopher’s father loses his cool and reacts. The father, however, does a good thing by not hitting Christopher back but instead throwing the book away, which means a lot to Christopher. Christopher is saddened by his father’s actions and eventually goes looking for the book but to no appeal. To apologize, Christopher’s father, takes Christopher to the zoo and apologizes about his behavior, and tells him about how much he loves him.
A final developmental point of the relationship between the two is when Christopher goes into his father’s bedroom, which was off limits to him, and searches for his book. What Christopher ends up finding is a major detriment to the relationship. We find out that Christopher’s father had been hiding things from him for a long time. He also admits to some of his behavior which shocks Christopher and makes him feel unsafe in his house. How Christopher responds is how we, the readers, can determine that Christopher had reached his breaking point with his father. Christopher’s father attempts an apology but Christopher had already made a decision on his future. On Christopher’s end, he views his father no longer with love but in fear, and his father is unaware of the plan Christopher is concocting. As a reader, I feel that Christopher no longer trusts his father and as mentioned before, is almost terrified of him.
These events caused Christopher to run away and go to London in search of someone, and it leads his father to follow after him.
ReplyDeleteChristopher and his father share a special relationship that christopher never really gets with his mother. His father always seems to be there for Christopher even when it is not convenient such as when his Father “had come to the police station” (Haddon 41). Despite being in jail his father was not angry at Chris. This is evidence that Christopher's father throughout the beginning of the story is a very calm and very patient person who seems to know that Christopher is different from others. This scene helps to show that his father was very mindful of Christopher's disorder which helps the reader to see that they go together very well. Later on though his father seems to be getting angry with his son for poking around the neighborhood in search of clues for his detective work. His father obviously becomes a more violent person when “Father banged his fist really hard so that the plates jumped around” (Haddon 49). This is a much worse account of his father compared to earlier in the story. Now He seems to be violent and does not want christopher to find out anything about who killed wellington. This scene is very important as it shows that his father while patient is also a violent person, or at least has a lot of anger towards something that the reader does not know yet.
The end of this section is perhaps the turning point of the story. It is only in this later part of the story that the reader finds out why he kept getting angry about Chris’ investigation. It is when his father says ”I killed Wellington” (Haddon 120) that the story truly changes. This is a large progression in the story in which the actual objective of the story is achieved, we find out who killed Wellington. Except that now their is a new objective. Christopher must know find out more about his mother in which he was told by his father, was dead. This adds a much larger plot to the story because he says that he is not safe with father thus he journeys to London. This is the single greatest turning point in the story because everything changes. Instead of looking for clues he goes on a real adventure which gives the book a lot of flavor when the story was starting to dry up.

ReplyDeleteThe relationship between Christopher and his father is noteworthy. The reason I use the word ‘noteworthy’ is because one minute his father is standing up for Christopher and the next he hits him. The relationship changes a lot throughout the book between Christopher and his father.
In the beginning of the assigned chapter, their relationship was off to a good start besides the fact that Christopher was cleaning out the cut on his cheek with Dettol, that was made by his father when he had hit him. After that was noted in the book, Christopher’s father was showing his sympathy and guilt by bringing Christopher to the zoo. This scene moved the plot forward by showing how they get over resolve arguments.
In the middle of this chapter, their relationship kind of fades. The relationship fades around the time Christopher had found the letters from his mom in the shirt box that was in his father’s bedroom. Christopher knew that his mom had died in the hospital not that long ago, or at least that’s what he was told by his father. In this scene Christopher learns more about the truth of his mom and becomes confused about the idea of his mom still being alive and that she had been writing to him, or the fact that his dad had lied to him about this whole situation.
At the end of this chapter, their relationship was not going in a good direction. It started when Christopher found the letters and when he found the truth about the murderer of Wellington, but then decided that he was going to run away. Christopher was more afraid of his father and saw him as a murderer and did not want any part of him. His dad handled things to make the mood more calm and a way for Christopher to understand. Christopher could not understand this because he was focused on the letters and Wellington. I think that his dad takes good care of Christopher but handles things in an upsetting kind of way. His father should have been more upfront with Christopher about his mother even if his dad does not approve of Christopher’s mom.

In the beginning of the book after Christopher’s father comes to get him out of jail, we begin to see evidence of the true relationship between Christopher and his father. At first, Christopher’s father seems like a good guy, genuinely concerned about his son, especially when they put their hands up and make their fingers touch to show that they love each other. However, later Christopher is talking to his father about trying to find out who killed Wellington and his father becomes very cross with him, eventually banging on the steering wheel and yelling at Christopher to leave the matter of the dead dog alone and to stay out of other people’s business. This is the first clue to discovering that Christopher’s father killed Wellington.
Later in the story, Christopher’s father’s violent side comes out when he is upset about Christopher not having dropped his investigation into discovering who killed Wellington. His emotions get the better of him and all sense leaves him as he grabs Christopher really hard, even though he knows that Christopher does not like to be touched. It can be inferred that his father hit Christopher when his brain and memory “switched off” due to the fact that he was now on the floor up against the wall and the side of his head hurt. This is probably when Christopher subconsciously begins to feel unsafe around his father. Such an outburst had never occurred before. This event shows that even though Christopher’s dad is normally a level-headed and tempered person--even when it comes to Christopher--he can lose control of himself and very quickly become violent toward anyone.
When Christopher’s father confesses to Christopher about murdering Wellington, it is obvious that the father regrets his actions and really cares about Christopher, and did not mean to kill the dog. Even though he lied to protect Christopher from the nasty sting of reality, Christopher does not like lies and no longer feels safe being around his father because if he killed Wellington, he could hurt Christopher if his temper randomly flared again and the next time, it might be more than a blow to the head. This event causes Christopher to take action to ensure his own well being.
Through the section I just read, I found out that the relationship between Christopher and his father is actually very strange and dynamic during the development of the story.
ReplyDeleteAt the beginning of the section, Christopher’s father showed his apology by taking him to the Twycross zoo and satisfying his interests and habits as many as possible. In Christopher’s mind, he knows that his dad cares about him as before, so he just acts like normal. However, as the development of story, the interaction between Christopher and his father has changed dramatically. His father rudely beat Christopher with a temper as a flash point, but the lie even hurts Christopher’s heart deeply.
The next scene is in the middle of the section. Christopher was looking for his book in the house, however, he found those letters that sent by his mother. Therefore, Christopher figured out that his father lied to him about his mother’ death. Christopher became even more silent to his father rather than becoming broken-hearted and frightened. Since Christopher doesn’t trust his dad anymore, it creates a gap between Christopher and his dad. The scene which happened next just made the situation even worst.
From the last part of the section, Christopher gave up all hopes of his father after father admitted he is the killer of Wellington, the reason why he killed the dog was only because of his jealousy to Wellington. Therefore, Christopher decided to leave his father for his safety, and goes to London to find his mother. Christopher is really feared and upset on his dad, so the relationship between Christopher and his father seems really strained at the end.

This scene showed us that his relationship with his father has finally collapsed, because he doesn’t trust his dad and he is afraid of him.
The relationship between Christopher and his father goes through many ups and downs throughout the book. For starters Christopher gets brought to the police station because he hit a cop. Once his father arrived he was freaking out at the policeman because of how much he cares for Christopher, but the office did not know about Christopher's disorder.

When he found out that Christopher talked with Mrs. Alexander he grabbed Christopher, then Christopher lashed out of control and started to hit his father. He said that his mind went blank and he did not remember what had happened, but his father had scratches all over and his shirt was torn. This shows some of the hostility of their relationship.
Finally Christopher’s father shows his unconditional love by doing anything he can to try and find Christopher when he runs away to his mother. He gets the police involved just to get him back But, Christopher wants nothing to do with his father. He is scared to go back to his father because his father killed Wellington and he thought that he would do the same to him. This shows all the complications that arise from their relationship.
Christopher’s relationship with his father has been very strong since the beginning of the story. The relationship between father and son starts off with Christopher being arrested and his father comes to get him. Christopher’s father loves him, so he comes and gets him. He knows Christopher does not like being touched, so they came up with a solution by touching hands instead. This helps move the plot because it shows how strong the bond between father and son is. This might seem like a good thing, but people will also fight with each other.

Christopher was trying to write a book about who killed Wellington, but his father did not want him to. When he found out Chris was still writing the book, he gave Christopher a beating that he was ashamed of. To make it up to him, his father took Christopher to the zoo as a forgive me gift. This starts to develop Christopher’s character because he can start to put into perspective that people are not what they seem all cut out to be. Every relationship has its arguments until someone pulls out the last straw.
The relationship between father and son became corrupted Christopher found out the truth about everything. Christopher was looking for his book in his father’s room when he saw letters from his mother. This was impossible for him to take in because his father told him that his mother was dead. One day his father came home to see him reading the letters. Christopher’s dad then told him the truth about his mother and that he killed Wellington. That was the last straw for Christopher because of how his father lied to him. This develops Christopher’s character because he can not trust his father anymore.

In the beginning of the story, his father arrives to pick him up and drive him home. But before Christopher is allowed to go he gets asked why he slapped the policeman and if he killed the dog or not. On the way home, he tells his father that he wants to find out, who the real murderer of the dog Wellington is, but his father does not approve of his plan.
And later in the middle of the story,Christopher does not know what his father talking sometimes. His father supports him when he wants to take his A level in his math. And his father usually takes him on outing on Saturday.
In the end of the story, in Chapter 157: Christopher goes back into his father’s room to read the other letters addressed to him.They were all written by his mother and he finds out that she didn’t die and is still alive.So as you can she there are some interesting information and turning points in these chapters.This shows that their relationship is very different than what people expect a typical father-son relationship.
Christopher’s relationship with his father is a real struggle, especially after his mom left. Since then, the dad has abused and been angry with Christopher. For example, when the dad finds out Christopher is still solving the case of Wellington’s murder, dad grabs and yells at Christopher “But Father interrupted me and grabbed hold of my arm really hard.” (Haddon 82).
ReplyDeleteThen when Christopher finds out his mom is still alive and dad finds out, dad starts to realize what a bad father he has been all of his life lying and abusing Christopher “ I did it for your own good, Christopher. Honestly I did. I never meant to lie. I just thought...I just thought it was better if you didn’t know…” (Haddon 114).
At this point, Christopher’s relationship with his father has broke. Which costs dad the trust of his son. So dad makes it up to Christopher by giving him a friend. “Then he came back through and gave me the dog. And he said, ‘He’s two months old. And he’s a golden retriever.’” (Haddon 219).
In the beginning of the book, Christopher and his father interact when his father has to pick up Christopher from the police station. In this scene his father is a little upset with Christopher with the way that he acted towards the police officer. His father hated that he had his nose in other people's business. He was very upset with him especially because he never dropped the “investigation” and the way that he hit the police officer. His father knows that Christopher has a mental disability so he can not be too upset but he still is upset because he should have not have reacted that way. He forgives him because he has a special connection with him and understands that he can not control himself at times. This shows that his father cares and forgives Christopher no matter what he does because he understands that he can not control himself.
ReplyDeleteIn the middle of the book Christopher and his father got close and did things together but then things took a turn for the worse. Christopher found out that his father killed Wellington. This made Christopher very upset and scared. He thought that his father might try to do something else bad. So he decided to leave his father and move in with his mother. The only things bad about that idea is that his mother lives in London. That did not stop him though. He packed a few things and his rat and went to the train station. This scenes shows that his father is not always true to Christopher so they are not as tight as they should be.
In the end of the book, Christopher is on his way to London and his father does not know where he is. Christopher does not want to tell his father because he does not want him to come after him especially with what he did to Wellington. His father is at the police station trying to find Christopher and he is very worried about him. Christopher does not care if his father is worried or scared, he just wants to make it to London to live with his mother. This shows that his father truly cares about Christopher no matter what he does.
All of these scenes help strengthen the relationship between the father and son. For Christopher it shows that his father is always there for him and will protect him even though his father lied to him, he will still be there. For his father it tells him that he needs to be honest with his son no matter what happens. It also shows that even though Christopher has a disability, he still needs to care about his feelings and tell him exactly what happened. This moves the plot forward because it helps add a little drama and helps put in suspense for the reader. It also adds a plot twist because no one thought that the father would be the one killing Wellington, but he did. Also, no one thought that Christopher would be afraid of his father and would end up moving to London with his mother.

Christopher first didn’t realized that his father was really angry, because he talked really quite and calm. But after time he starts shouting at him and then Christopher realizes that he is really angry about it. His father destroyed his book and held him like he never did before, because his father was a more levelheaded person and his mom was a very hot tempered person. The conversation ends in a fight between Christopher and his father.
At the end Christopher’s father tells him the whole truth, that he wanted to protect Christopher by saying his mom died and that he killed Wellington the dog of Mrs. Shears, because he wanted to be in a relationship with her and she cared more for the dog then for him. Christopher did not talk at all, because he was really upset and couldn’t think clear. When his dad left to go to bed, he was really scared, because he thought he would kill him too. To be safe, he wants to travel to London to live with his mother.
In the beginning of the book Christopher's dad bails him out of jail. Christopher and his father have a fairly normal relationship and he looks out for his kid when he yells at the police officer to get his son out of jail. We can see that his father gets angry at the police officer but he is trying to do what is right for Christopher. Overall in the beginning of the book we can see he is trying to be a good father, but sometimes has a hard time understanding him.
ReplyDeleteIn the middle of the book when Christopher’s father returns home from work he gives Christopher a surprise, Christopher’s book of writings was found by his dad, and he was not to happy to find what was in it. The book contained notes about him talking to Mrs.Alexander about Mrs.Shears. He was not happy that Christopher was talking to them and he gets really angry and starts swearing at him to show his anger. This makes Christopher look for different ways to find wellington's killer.
In the end Christopher's father reveals that he killed wellington and the truth about his mother leaving and how Mrs. Shears helped him recover from his wife's affair. This made Christopher be in a frightful mood because he thinks his father is a cold blooded killer and that he needs to get out of that house immediately

When his father had hit Christopher, he took Christopher to the zoo because he was properly sorry for him. This is show that his father always care him, love him, and trying to get them back together no matter what. Next, Christopher looked for his book in father’s room then he found mother’s letters to him. That’s prove, mother had not died and father had been lied to him. Also his father told him that he was the one who killed Wellington. From this scene, Christopher knew all the truth and he was so frigtens to stay with father then he dicided to leave without telling him and this show that he could not handle what father had done. After the mystery had been solve, Christopher could not trust his father anymore so he planned to go to mother’s house in London by his own. Which is he have to get out of the way that he had been used to and go another way for just get away from his father’s mistake. Futuremore, Christopher should learn to care other’s feeling, try to understand people with a reason, and be more wisdom to make a decision so these could get him a strong relation with father or other.

ReplyDeleteChristopher and his father’s relationship is very odd. It seems to start out very normal and healthy. His father knows Christopher’s likes and dislikes and knows his needs, and respects them. As we continue reading, it is seen that their relationship is not all that perfect, and that there seems to be some fighting and tension between them.
Where this contrast is first seen in their relationship is when Christopher is at the police station for hitting the officer. When his father arrives, he seems aggravated and wants to know where his son is. When they finally let Christopher out, his father and him do a “hand hug” rather than a normal hug because his father knows he does not like to be embraced. His father seems very loving and and gentle here, but not soon after they leave, it is seen that is gentleness turns into anger. Christopher tells his father how he wants to figure out who killed Wellington, and his father yells at him and says to stay out of others business. When we first read this, we just think that his father does not want Christopher to get into anymore trouble, but we later learn that this really is not the case.
Another scene in the story that reveals more about Christopher and his father's relationship is after his father hits him. The day after this happened, Christopher’s father apologizes and offers to take him to the zoo. This gesture shows that Christopher’s father does love him and knows what he is interested in. It is evident that his father regrets hitting his son, and that he wants to try and make things right between them. So, they go to the zoo and have a very good day. This is a point in Christopher and his father’s relationship where it is calm and healthy. Christopher loves his father and gains a greater sense of trust for him.
Lastly, a scene that shows Christopher and his father's relationship is when Christopher runs away from home to find his mother. He feels scared and unsafe around his own father, and no longer trusts him. When Christopher is at the train station, his father does everything in his power to try and find his son. This shows his father’s great love for him, no matter the situation. He wants to make sure his son is safe and he wants to prove that he can be trusted and cares for him deeply.
Christopher’s relationship with his father has many ups and downs. There are times when it is very sincere and loving, but there are also times when it is rocky and stressful. No matter what their relationship is like, it helps to show the readers how each of them act and it helps to show how their characters really are. Their relationship constantly contradicts itself, so it is up to the reader to interpret it and decide what they think of each character individually, and their relationship at a whole.
When we first started the book the only characters we had really known about were of course Christopher and his father. Seeing as that Christopher only has his father to take care of him, we could infer that they must have a very close bond between each other. They have routines and special activities that they do together which really shows how much his father cares for him and truly wants what's best for his son.
ReplyDeleteWithin the first couple chapters of the book, the relationship between Christopher and his dad is pretty strong except for one scene in particular. One of the main concerns at this point is the constant outbreaks of anger Christopher’s father has because of Christopher constantly asking about the death of Wellington. We watch as Christopher takes the death of this dog seriously and take matter into his own hands by trying to find out the true culprit is but, because of this investigation, Christopher’s father does not seem to take very kindly to it. After finding out about his investigation and constant snooping around, Christopher's father angrily commands him to stop asking around and to completely drop this “investigation” of his. This was the ignition the plot needed to continue forward.
Towards the middle, the strong relationship between Christopher is constantly being tested. Christopher comes up with these “white lies”, as he calls them, to almost loophole his way out of investigating. He start to try small talk with Mrs. Alexander in order to try to obtain information without actually asking about the investigation or Wellington. The problem was that Christopher decided to write his entire conversation with her in his journal, and eventually left it on the table, available for his father to read. His father was not happy with that at all. He was so angry that he even grabbed Christopher by the arm and hit him. This was surprising for Christopher because his dad had never struck him before, but he did not react so harshly that he had been afraid of his own father.
The last part was probably one of the most traumatizing for Christopher. He had found out that his own mother who he thought was dead, had been alive the entire time. Not only that, but his father lied to him even though he had made a promise to never lie to him. This causes Christopher to go into some state of shock and basically, freak out. This crossed the line for him. He now feels that he can never trust his father again. After he finds out about his mother, his father then confesses to killing Wellington and Christopher could not take it. Because of this, Christopher felt that his father would kill him and that he needed to run away back to his mother. His father is looking for him but Christopher does not want to be found. At this point, Christopher's relationship with his father is tattered and it seems it will take a while to bring it back together.

We can see the evolving relationship between Christopher and his father through the book. Their relationship changed drastically with the story.
As we already know, at the beginning, Christopher did some detective work which is finding someone who killed Mrs.Shears’ dog. Then, his father found it out and they promised that he, Christopher will never do it. And Christopher followed the father’s promise strictly, except white lies. However, from this scene, we can tell that Christopher has strong trust and credit to his father. And they had kept really good relationship along, even though they had few conflicts with each other sometimes.
Since the middle of the book, more secrets came out. And one of the biggest events was that Christopher’s mother was alive and lived in London with writing many letters to him. But his father had kept it secret. Accidently, Christopher found the letters and his father saw that Christopher read them. After that, while their conversation, Christopher was not saying anything. We know Christopher doesn’t like lying and his father whom he had trusted had lied to him. This will affect their relationship. Now, Christopher doesn’t trust his father and all those things make the story between them deepen.
At the end, Christopher decided to live with his mother. He was trying to get out of the house to get train with not letting his father know. His father knew that Christopher was disappeared and he left to find his son. Christopher heard his father leaving and also he went to the station. From this scene, their relationship is being broken. Christopher does not want to live with his father, but his mother. Christopher didn’t trust his father anymore. The strength of relationship has been weakened.
In conclusion, they have more conflicts and a deepened relationship.
Christopher and his dad have had interesting encounters within the book so far. At times the relationship is friendly and other times, it's been intense and harsh. Toward the beginning of the book the relationship was very strong. For example, when Christopher was arrested because he hit the police officer. His father came in very angry and just wanted to see Christopher. Christopher and his father talked after the station. Christopher's father had expressed concern for his son, he wanted him to be safe, this is seen when the father said, “‘ Christopher you have to stay out of trouble, OK?’” (Haddon 20). As any parent would want their kid to be safe, his father stressed the importance that Christopher should forget about what happened to Wellington so he doesn't get into more trouble. This furthers the mystery of what happened to Wellington.
ReplyDeleteAlthough Christopher's father has been aggressive at times, he also still cares for Christopher. Christopher's father asked “‘So what have you been up too today, young man?’”
(Haddon 95). This shown interest in Christopher shows his father cares about how he is doing and how his day is going. His father proceeds to ask after Christopher's response, “‘Excellent, excellent. What do you fancy for chow tonight?’” (Haddon 96). Christopher's father also showing a continuous effort to care for Christopher. Although Christopher and his father may fight, This shows it may just be a problem with frustration with Christopher not listening to what his father asked of him, like letting go of his investigation into Wellington's death. His father may not be the greatest at handling those situations in the best way.
Even through the kindness which has been shown through some of Christopher's father's actions, his father does react to situations involving christopher poorly. This can be seen when Christopher was reading letters from his mother in his father's room. Christopher's father came in and said, “‘ Christopher, what the hell are you doing?’” (Haddon 113) Proceeded by “‘What the fuck are you…’” (Haddon 114)* When his father realized what he was actually reading the letters, he was sad. His father couldn't explain why he had lied. Through this we saw the venerable side of his father. Christopher being affected by this lie had cause a strain on the relationship with his father, which lead to the decision of running away.

ReplyDeleteThe relationship with Christopher and his father is sweet but sour. Also, we see that it’s an up and down sort of relationship. Around page 16 and 17, a scene shows the sweet part of their relationship. The police take Christopher to the police department and his dad comes and get him. When he arrives to get him he wanted to immediately see Christopher. When the police let Christopher go his father was waiting for him outside. Although Christopher just came out of the department, his father was nice. In that scene, it tells us that Christopher does not like to be hugged so Christopher and his father show their affection in a different way. Christopher’s father is very calm with him at that time in the book. Yet on pages 20 and 21, it shows that his father gets upset and irritated when Christopher tries to explain that he was upset about Wellington and why he’s so upset about it. Christopher’s affection for dogs is tremendous, so when his father got mad at him when he wouldn’t let the fact about Wellington’s death it up raised in tension.
Christopher’s father directly tells him that he should stay out of other’s business, in one point in the middle of the book Christopher’s father calls upon him about Mrs. Alexander and asks him if he talked to her about Wellington’s death. While his voice escalated he asked how Christopher could be so stupid to do that. He clarifies that sticking his nose into other’s business is not what you do and after grabbed ahold of Christopher’s arm hard. However Christopher doesn’t like that, he doesn’t like to be touched and people getting close to him. In the beginning of the book he explains how loud noises affect him, and when it comes to other people he is very sensitive. Throughout the book readers also realize that Christopher’s father isn’t truthful either, the letters that Christopher receives from his mother has been kept hidden from his father. His mother has wrote to him every week, however his father has been lying to Christopher.
Christopher’s father is a very caring person, but has some flaws. Toward the end of the book on pages 120-122 we find out that his father killed Wellington, and he shows sympathy by explaining to Christopher that he has been trying hard and sometimes it’s not easy. At first Christopher was confused, he didn’t know if what his father was saying was real. However, his father keeps explaining and he realizes that it was real. Christopher didn’t handle it well, in fact he didn’t know what to do. In the end of that scene in the book, Christopher leaves the house while his father fell asleep. In this scene it shows how easy it is for his father to not be truthful sometimes.
We can see that Christopher and his father’s relationship have a sweet and sour relationship, but also a bumpy one. They have very different understandings of things, and struggle throughout some things. There are times throughout the book where their relationship is compassionate, but then the other times are the total opposite of compassionate.
Christopher relationship with his father is the driving force of the book. Everything that happens is caused by how Christopher and his father interact with each other. Here are some scenes that help support this claim.
ReplyDeleteThe first scene in the book shows that Chris’ father is used to Chris’ antics and isn’t mad at all. He had to go to the police station to pick up Christopher and they way he acts about it seems calm. He knows Chris didn’t kill the dog because Christopher doesn’t lie (and we find out that father killed the dog). When Christopher's father finds the book is another good example because it shows the frustration father has toward Christopher. He tells him numerous times to stop investigating but he keeps on doing it. Father later apologizes to Christopher knowing that Christopher doesn’t know any better. And finally when Christopher finds the notes from his mother. Christopher starts to think of his father as a liar and a killer because he also killed Wellington so Christopher decides to run away to his mother.
The relationship between Christopher and his father changes throughout the book. It goes from Christopher getting into a little trouble and his father accepting it to Christopher's father getting furious because of Christopher's writing of the book to Christopher thinking that running away to london is safer than living with his father.

At the beginning of the story the event that I choose was when Christopher got taken to the police station and was being questioned by the police about if he was the one who killed Mrs. Shears’s dog. The police made christopher sit in a jail cell until his dad had to come and pick him up. On the way home his dad made it clear that he wanted Christopher to stay away from the murdered animal and to stay out of trouble. This develops Christopher and helps move the plot forward by into realizing that there is something more than just a murder happening.
ReplyDeleteDuring the middle of the story Christopher starts talking about how he came home one night and his mom was not home. His dad came home and was obviously upset. He said mom won’t be coming home in a while, and after that his dad just sat there staring out the window. This makes Christopher start to think that something happened to his mom, and this also develop dad into more aggressive and not as patient towards Christopher. This moves the plot along by by thinking what ever happened to him mom.
During the end of what we were supposed to read I read about when Christopher's dad hit him. This changed everything because at the beginning Christopher’s dad would just yell at him but now it turned into physical abuse. This makes Christopher wanting to leave his father and try to go and find his mother. Christopher also no longer feels that he is safe as well. This moves the plot along by Christopher going into the world by himself to find his mom.
Christopher and his father do not get along all of the time. One example of this comes in the beginning of the book when Christopher is doing detective work to figure out who had killed Wellington, his neighbor's dog. His dad had not liked this and yelled at Christopher for digging around in people's business. This made Christopher promise to his father he would not again. And the moves the book along into Christopher trying to find out the case without asking questions.
ReplyDeleteAnother scene is when Christopher's father finds out he is writing a book. Father got very mad about this. He yelled at Christopher and threw out his book and hit him in the head. This shows that Christopher's dad can sometimes not control his anger and it shows how Christopher does not know what it right and wrong. Christopher would continue to write the book but it would just be on a different piece of paper and he would have to copy it down in his other book when he found it.
One of the ending scenes is when Christopher's father finds out that Christopher knows his mother is not dead. This is a low point for Christopher and changes the rest of the book. Christopher’s father feels very bad about not telling him. He was going to tell him but when he was older so it would be easier to understand. This shows that his father loves him and doesn't want him to be hurt, but Christopher is hurt and will not talk to his father. Christopher runs away that night and doesn't sleep at home.
1.Very beginning after Christopher was caught by policeman, his dad came to police station with anger. His dad so urge to find out why was his son got involved in this. From sense of when they met up, narrator used the detail to picture sense: how his dad hold his hand instead of give him a hug and reason why. We can clearly see his dad love him so much. Even Christopher couldn’t understand what is love but he still received and recognized his dad love him. We would noticed later on there will be some interesting part of their relationship and how they going to comminuted with each other.

He used special way to communicated with Christopher the whole story and why would he says that. We can tell at end of the sense Dad make Christopher to promise, which shows his love, patience and deep understanding of how to make this relationship work. We know the who killed dog thing still stuck in his mind, which push story further and we all question about what Christopher going to do next.
3.When his dad check out his personal journal, his dad can’t tolerated any longer, and they got into big fight, and eventually beat Christopher up because he don’t know how to deal with this situation any more. We can see his dad completely lost his mind, things are starting get out of control. His dad is hot blooded man with soft heart, but after this very sense readers are all wondering how is he going to pick his mess up. Give us more space to imagining what will happen next.

The father’s attitude to the son is metabolic. At the first when the son out off the police office, the relationship between son and father, it was like the normal relationship between son and father. The father doesn’t want to the boy get in the troublesome. And then, the father had argument with his son. He is very explosive, but he took the son to the zoo for apology his rash mistake. Form here, we can see the father loves the boy.

In the end, Christopher got the true for the even. He doesn’t want live with his father, he took the money from his father, and he wants to go to the London to find his mother. When father heard he gonna go to the London, at the first, he just wants to know where is he. All in all, the father is always loves the boy. The even alternate in the story shows the relationship between son and father.
Christopher’s evolving relationship with his father are throughout this novel. Christopher is a non inductive person, he doesn’t have the real feeling about the family, he only think the family is a place to live, someone will cook, and sometimes will solve his problem. He doesn’t know what real meaning of the love.

Later Christopher want to find out who is the murder of the dog, his father start to hold back him and every time he knew christopher are doing this he will be so mad. In the middle of this novel, relationship between Christopher and his father still good but not that good. What is the meaning of the good but not that good, Good is they Christoph think his dad want to protect him so don’t want him to find out the murder of the dog and very support him to study level A of the math, But not that good is his father told him his mother died and his father was very sad about this and still want to stop Christopher to find out who is the dog murder, and everytimes when his dad know Christopher are doing this will be so mad and yelling at Christopher. This thing is author want the reader understand the thing follow on.
In the end the relationship between Christopher and his father are in the extreme case, Christopher’s book got take away from his dad and then Christopher find out his mother didn’t died and knows his dad are lied to him about the mother’s dead, the love meaning for Christopher is take care of him and never lie to him, and after this his dad told him, he killed the dog, Christopher almost nervous breakdown, he start to think about his dad is gonna kill him, and want to move to London to live with his mother. This thing move the plot forward.
In The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time By Mark Haddon, it is easy to see that Christopher and his father do not have the ideal parent and child relationship but they still love each other. On page 16 it says, “He held up his right hand and spread his fingers out in a fan. I held up my left and thumbs touch each other. We do this because sometimes Father wants to give me a hug, but I do not like hugging people so we do this instead, and it means that he loves me” (Haddon). This shows that even though it may be hard for Christopher’s father to communicate and understand him, that no matter what he loves him. He has grown to accept Christopher’s struggles and has tried to help him succeed in all that he wants to do. He was willing to pay extra money for Christopher to be able to take A levels in math because he knew it was what Christopher wanted and that it was something he excelled in. Towards the middle of the book, there is more tension between the two and Christopher begins to get suspicious about his father.
ReplyDeleteThe tension begins to grow when Christopher decides to keep investigating the mystery of who killed Willington. Chris’ father gets annoyed and mad that Chris disobeyed what he had asked him to do, which was to stay out of other peoples’ business. Christopher also found out that his mother cheated on his father with Mr. Shears while investigating. Things got physical and Christopher ended up being thrown on the ground with a cut on his face after his father finds his book. This begins to change the mood of the story and makes it easier for the reader to become more suspicious of his father, especially toward the end.
Christopher finds the box of letters from his mother that his father was hiding and realizes that his mother is actually still alive and that she never died. He found out she had moved away with Mr. Shears and that his father lied to him about her death. At that point, Christopher begins to question if he can really trust his father and on top of that he finds out his father was the murderer of Willington. Christopher wonders if it is safe for him to stay with his dad so he decides to run away to his mother in London. He begins to second guess his safety with his father since his father had killed a dog and had lied to him about his mother. Throughout the book, the relationship between Christopher and his father changed drastically and some may question if what his father did was the right or wrong thing to do.
Christopher has an evolving relationship with his father. Throughout the book, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, their relationship is constantly changing as Christopher becomes more and more curious about what exactly happened with his mother, Wellington, and his father. It seems as if Christopher becomes more suspicious of his father as time goes on in the book. There are certain situations he finds himself in that certainly justifies his suspicion in his dad’s actions.
ReplyDeleteIn the beginning, Christopher had a pretty good relationship with his father. They seemed to give each other their space and were really comfortable with how everything was going on between them. Christopher had no reason not to trust his dad and looked up to him as a moral role model or leader. They showed as much affection to each other as was necessary and within the limits of Christopher’s comfort level. It seemed to be as if things were all fine and dandy with Christopher and his dad.
In the middle, Christopher started to realize more of a sense of suspicion toward his father. He ended up finding the letters that his father was hiding from him causing some untrust to come between the two. Those letters were letters from his mother and it’s important to Christopher to see those so the question arises, why is his father hiding the letters? Someone could argue that the dad was trying to keep him safe from the harmful truth but at the same time that’s the reason why Christopher’s relationship with his father starts to go downhill.
Reaching the end, Christopher completely runs out of trust in his father. He ends up finding out that his dad killed Wellington. He wonders how and why would his own dad committed the offense that he has spent all of this time trying to find answers to. Christopher’s relationship with his father went from really good, with trust in one another to complete untrust and hatred between the two.
The scene from the beginning of the book is when Christopher is taken to the police station and his dad comes and bails him out and explains the whole situation. This shows that Ed is very willing to help and guide Christopher through tough times. I also believe that Ed is a very good father because he is able to tolerate some of Chris’ actions and deal with his disability very well. At this point in the book the relationship between Christopher and his father is very strong.

Christopher also finds out that his mother is still alive. Christopher realizes that his dad is hiding something and begins to stop trusting him. This starts the complete destruction of the trust between Christopher and his father.
The scene from the end-ish of the book is when Christopher finds out that his dad has killed Wellington and his mother is alive. This greatly affects his relationship with his dad because now he doesn’t feel safe around his dad and he also doesn’t trust his dad anymore.

ReplyDeleteIn the beginning of the book, we saw Christopher and his father as having a good relationship. His father was understanding of his disease but set appropriate boundaries for Christopher. Before he started his investigation of Wellingtons death, Christopher thought his mother died from a heart attack because that is what his father told him. He trusted his father and they had a special relationship because of the loss of his mother.
ReplyDeleteWhen Christopher was accused of killing the neighbor's dog and his father had to pick him up from the police station, when he arrived his father did not freak out like most parents would. The first thing the father and son did when they reunited is their handshake. “We do this because sometimes father wants to give me a hug, but I do not like hugging people so we do this instead, and it means that he loves me”(Haddon 16). This shows how his father is understanding of his son's needs and when he could be upset with Christopher he instead is happy to see him. Later in the book when Mrs. Alexander tells Christopher that his mother and Mr. Shears had an affair, something Christopher's father had not told him. Christopher obviously has a change in attitude towards his father when he discovers all the lies his father tells about his mother. Christopher and his father get into a fight and his dad hits him and he blacks out. This shows that Mr. Boone is becoming overwhelmed with his son and his investigation. Lastly, father admits to Christopher about killing Wellington because he did not want anymore lies between them. He explains it was because he was angry that his wife left him. Although he was being honest, Christopher was not pleased with this news and he became worried and screamed. This scene is a big twist for Christopher and he becomes afraid of his father, enough to take a train by himself to London.
By the end of the book their father son relationship has drastically changed and they no longer hold a close bond Christopher thought they once had. All the interactions between him and his dad became overwhelming for Christopher and led to his breaking point. Although all the lies Mr Boone held from Christopher, when he found out about them they taught him information he should have known.

ReplyDeleteThe first scene between Christopher and his dad would be when Christopher’s father picks him up from the police station. When Chris’s dad picks up Chris he sounds disappointed but it seems he is used to it with Chris having aspergers. On the way home Chris keeps saying that he did not kill Wellington and his dad says he knows. This is kind of funny looking back after reading farther in the book because Christopher’s dad kills the dog so Chris’s dad does know that Chris does not kill the dog. At this point in the story Chris fully trusts his dad and thinks that his mother has died.
The second of many encounters between Chris and his dad would be when his dad finds out that Chris is trying to figure out again who killed Wellington. His father gets more mad this time compared to the last time at the police station. He father grabs his arm which to Christopher means that his dad is really mad. After his father is sorry and he takes Christopher to the zoo. This just shows how the tension grows each time an event happens that will lead up to one big event.
Finally, Chris still wants to go do detective work on who killed Wellington. So, he proceeds on going into his father's room and finding his book. During his search he finds something much greater than just his book, he finds letters from his mother. He is very confused by this because he thought and his father told him that his mother had died. When his father comes home and finds Christopher curled up on his bed and had gotten sick from reading the letters from his mother. His father apologizes many times to him and also tells him that he killed Wellington. When Christopher hears this he gets scared and thinks that his dad will murder him as well, so Christopher runs away to his mother. The was the turning point between Christopher and his father. Their relationship had taken a turn for the worst, Christopher does not trust his father anymore because he killed Wellington. This leads the plot forward into Christopher navigating himself through the train station and the various obstacles he has to overcome. This also helps Christopher learn how to ignore people like we see when he is in the train station.

ReplyDeleteIn the beginning of the story Christopher and his dad have a pretty good father and son relationship, even though that his dad may have a short fuse he does his best for christopher. A good example is when christopher gets put in jail his father quickly stormed to christopher and bailed him out. Even though Christopher didn’t like being touched his father knowing that they always would do a hand hug and that's how christopher's father always showed that he loved him. Christopher's dad would move things along even though it wasn’t the best but he would stand up for christopher and loved him no matter the consequence.
As their relationship goes on throughout the story it later takes multiple highs and lows where they build up and it goes down. It can be difficult for Christopher where he wants to figure out, find the person that had killed wellington but that would slowly tear their relationship down. Although for Christopher's dad would become very upset since he would be snooping around where as Christopher's dad would say “ don’t stick your nose in people's business”. Even though Christopher's dad would do everything within his power so Christopher doesn’t get hurt.
Once it starts getting close towards the end of the book there relationship gets ruined completely. With Christopher believing that his mother had died from a heart attack, but later to discover that she has been alive just that Christopher's dad was hiding the fact that she had left him for another man. Not only that but to discover that his dad had killed Wellington and Christopher hearing that made his mental condition worse a man that he trusted lied to him for a very long time about his mom being dead and killing Wellington. Christopher not being able to trust his father anymore pushing him to the point where he runs away to find his mother that lives in London.
Christopher’s relationships seen to evolve as time goes on. As he meets new people, he becomes more comfortable and trusts them more. Relationships are hard to establish with Christopher because he doesn’t trust strangers, but the relationship he has with his father just seems to evolve more and more as time goes on. Christopher’s father will do anything for him, like making his food a special way or coming to the rescue when something does go wrong. An example of this is when Christopher gets arrested and his dad shows up freaking out, but then he sees Christopher and their fingers fan out on top of one another, making everything a little better. This scene shows that when something goes wrong, Christopher’s father still loves him just the same and just wants him to be okay. Father develops by not trusting Christopher after this point, he is unsure of what he will do and want him to stay out of trouble so he doesn’t go to jail again.
ReplyDeleteWith Christopher and his condition, there are bound to be times when they both get angry with each other or upset. When Father saw Christopher’s journal, he became infuriated and took things way farther than what he should have. Yelling at Christopher so badly and ultimately hitting him in the face. This situation can show that just by seeing something that Christopher did, and he wasn’t supposed to, could turn a good day into something horrible. Christopher had never experienced this before or seen his father get that mad, which could frighten Christopher and could ruin their relationship. In this part of the book, Father is becoming more developed by trying to learn how to control his emotions toward Christopher, so he doesn’t get scared of him.

ReplyDeleteIn the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time one main topic in book is the relationship between Christopher and his father. On page 81-82 Christopher’s father found a book the he was writing on his investigation about the dog, after his father warned him about not getting into people’s business numerous times, you can believe that he was pretty upset and at the end it turns into a grabbing and slapping fight. In this scene it shows that Christopher's father has a short temper and has little patience when it comes to Christopher. Later on Christopher was looking for his book in his father’s room and found a box full of letters. He later on finds out that those 43 letters were written by his mother after his father had told him that his mom has died of a heart attack. His dad has kept many secrets from him but keeping those from Christopher is to protect him from a rough childhood that he is having. Maybe his father shouldn't have kept these secrets from him but I believe his dad was trying to protect him from the truth that has impacted his childhood. On the same page Christopher’s father said that he killed Wellington. It shows that whether they have disagreements, or the have arguments, they both tell the truth and I believe that is a very important key in a family.
Christopher's relationship with his father is very interesting trought the novel. For example when Christopher got sent to jail, his father got called in to the police station he seemed very worried. Because he continued to ask for him and he kept on yelling to the officers because no one would explain to him what was really going on. Soon after they let Christopher go, his father held up his hand and spread out his fingers to show christopher that he cared and loved him very much.
ReplyDeleteAlso too in the middle of the novel when christopher and his dad argue about the book he's writing and his father hurts him, he then tries to show him that he is truly sorry by taking him to the zoo. In the zoo you can tell how their mood has changed by the way they are acting towards one another so it tells the audience how even though they argue, they still love one another.
The relationship with his father later on takes a rough turn, soon after Christopher found out the truth. It was all very difficult for Christopher to understand because when he found his mother's letters, when trying to look for his book. It made thing a lot worst, even when his father admit to him that he had killed Willington, he then had an even harder time trusting his father because he now saw him differently and he no longer saw him as an understanding parent but now he saw him more as a lying murderer which was very hard for him to understand why it was that his dad had kept so many things from him.

Christopher has many encounters with his dad that move the plot of the book along. Some of the most important ones are; his dad getting him from the police station, taking away his book, and telling him that he killed Wellington. Each of these scenes lead into each other.
The first time we really get to meet Christopher's dad is when he picks him up from the police station, after Christopher punches the police officer. This scene shows the love his dad has for him. To show that his dad loves him they do this thing almost like a hand hug, because Christopher hates real hugs. Christopher's obsession with finding who killed Wellington is what leads his dad to take the book Christopher is writing about his investigation. When his dad is at work he goes to look for his investigation book and when he finds it he also finds letters, these letters help Christopher discover that his mother did not die but moved to london. Soon after the discovery of the letters his dad tells him that he had been the one that killed Wellington.
Through these we are shown that Christopher's father real does love him. He protects him from the truth in fear that Christopher will not be able to understand the reasons for certain things. He hides the the letters because he does not think that Christopher will be able to comprehend why his mom had left.
Christopher is a very logical thinking person and thinks every little detail through. His likes of red and having the rooms he's in being perfectly square are very unique and his love of small spaces is very interesting. His dislikes of the color yellow and brown are understandable because they are not very popular colors. He also doesn't like people he's not familiar with and holding conversations. He acts a lot like a small child but in his teen years.

I know all the countries of the world and their capital cities and every prime number up to 7,507.” this quote shows that he is actually very smart and is a logical thinker. “ It was nice in the police cell. It was almost a perfect cube” This also shows that Christopher like perfect measure spaces it shows he like things to be more perfect than not.
Christopher Boone appears to be a normal boy. He is 15 years old and dreams of being an astronaut. However, he is quite peculiar. Christopher knows things that most children do not: all the prime numbers up to 7,059 and even all the countries and their capitals. Of course there are aspects of Christopher that are quite normal. He is obsessed with space and everything in it, he loves dogs, and he even loves to play video games. He is incredibly smart, however people do not realize that because they cannot get past the fact that he has asperger’s. Of course, he is more than his disorder but it does hinder him in the real world. Christopher freaks out when somebody touches him. Haddon shows Christopher’s reaction to being touched, “The policeman took hold of my arm and lifted me onto my feet. I didn’t like him touching me like this. And this is when I hit him” (8). However, hitting was not meant to hurt anybody, it was just meant to get them to let go. There are some other differences too. He will not touch or eat anything yellow or brown. He also cannot tell lies and keeps all his promises. This may seem weird, but to Christopher, this was his normal. However, these things do impact how he interacts with other people.
ReplyDeleteThe two main people in Christopher’s life are his father and his teacher, Siobhan. His father is a single dad, working a job, and taking care of Christopher and his needs. He is juggling all these things, so his stress level is pretty high. His fuse is very short with Christopher because Christopher pushes the limits without realizing it. Since Christopher has asperger’s, he cannot tell people’s emotions or infer what people mean. This is the biggest communication error between him and his father. However, this does not hinder the love between them. Christopher would do anything to keep his father from being angry. An example of this is shown by Haddon, “I could tell he was angry because he was shouting, and I didn’t want to make him angry so I didn’t say anything else until we got home” (21). Christopher always wants his dad to be happy. However, this is very hard, so sometimes he just stays quiet to avoid conflict. On the other hand, Siobhan is the very opposite. She doesn’t have a short fuse with Christopher. She encourages him in ways that improve his character. She wrote out faces and emotions to help him understand people and even encouraged him to write a book. Christopher finds it easy to talk to her because she understands him, and not everyone does. These relationships cause Christopher to have different views of people than how other would see them.
Taking into account everything about his personality, I would say he is an unreliable narrator. Of course he never tells a lie, however he does have most characteristics of an unreliable narrator. The book is only told from his point of view, which causes a skewed view for the reader. Christopher is not like other people so in this novel it is very hard to grasp what other characters are thinking or feeling because Christopher cannot decipher emotions. In the end, Christopher is a great person, just an unreliable narrator.

ReplyDeleteIn one scene Christopher and his father interact when his father picks him up from the police station. The scene shows they have a loving relationship because his father goes and picks him up in the middle of the night and they embrace by touching hands.This scene reveals that his father is very protective of him because he gets very angry when Christopher gets locked up. He also knows Christopher very well because he put his hand out in a fan instead of hugging him since Christopher does not like to be hugged.
In another scene, Mr. Boone hits Christopher in the face because he went to talk to Mrs. Alexander. He’s mad because she told Christopher about the affair with Christopher's mom and Mr. Shears. This scene reveals that the relationship is good most of the time but their are times where his dad loses his temper over something Christopher has done. He normally is understanding of Christopher's behavior and knows things Christopher is uncomfortable with, but in this scene he loses his temper and is not considerate on how Christopher feels. For example he grabs Christopher and knows that he does not like to be touched. This scene moves the plot forward because his father is reminded that Christopher can not change who he is and can not lose his temper.
The last scene is where his dad finds Christopher after he has made himself sick by reading the letters. This scene reveals that they have a more complicated relationship than earlier in the book. This scene shows that Christopher thinks his dad is a liar and feels he should not be trusted, and his father is really sad about the way Christopher reacted to finding the truth. This moves the plot forward because it is making Christopher realize that his dad is a liar and he should go and try to find his mother.

ReplyDeleteThe first interaction christopher has with his father was when his father picked him up at the police station. In this scene christopher attempts to apologize to his Father for what happened trying to explain to him that he did not do it but his father ignored him him. It seemed as if father was very emotional about the dog. It is very obvious that Christopher and his Dad’s relationship is not honest. It is based on a lot of lies and hidden truths. This scene develops both the characters in different ways. For the Father it gets him caught up in more lies and even deeper in trouble and for Christopher it develops his mental capabilities.
ReplyDeleteThe next interaction is when Christopher's dad hits Christopher. In this scene it shows how short tempered Christopher's father is. It is not easy for him to raise Christopher and this is clearly shown in this scene. The two have a very unstable relationship. At this point the father had development a large amount of frustration and does not know how to relieve it. While Christopher became much more confused with a his relationship with his Father.
The final interaction is when Christopher finds his mother letters in his Dad’s closet. This scene shows exactly how much dishonesty is between Christopher and his Father. Not only did Christopher's father tell Christopher that his mother was dead but he hid the letters she had written to him. The little bit of trust these to had has now been shattered by this truth. By finding these letters Christopher and his Father relationship weakness tremendously. Now the father is developing lots of sorrow and remorse for his actions. On the hand Christopher is still trying to comprehend what is going on and if his mother is

ReplyDeleteMany of the interactive scenes between Christopher and his Dad reveal characteristics about their relationship. In the scene where Christopher finds his letters from his mom, the dad ends up saying sorry over the issue.This reveals that Christopher has been having secrets held away from him by his dad, and his dad has issues explaining and telling the truth because he was scared for Christopher to know. Therefore at this point there character relationship is not strong in this scene and the dad is hiding things from Christopher. Another case is when Christopher is trying to come up with lies so his dad does not find out about his detective work about the dog. Christopher explained that, in order to form a lie, he would have to pick an event that did not happen to replace the one that did. Realistically, everything that he has written in his book is true. So, this shows that Christopher is hiding things from his dad as well which describes their relationship as not a tight knit one but instead not a close one at all. Lastly in the scene where Christopher is trying to apologize to his dad for making him come to the police station many things occur and appear. On the drive home, Christopher tries to apologize to his father for making him come to the police station, but his father does not want to talk about it. They get home and Christopher notices his father sitting alone in the living room with tears in his eyes. Christopher asks him if he feels sad about Wellington. His father stares at him for a long time before replying that he does. This scene shows a rare sighting of them two connecting on a more personal level and it gets a bit soft. Shows the love between them that is rare throughout the book.
The first scene explained develops a mysterious and moody father role. The dad is seen to be very mood swingy and it is just very hard to predict his next move. Christopher seems to be very nosey and quite annoying considering he is getting into everyone else’s business. The second scene describes his father as a very secretive guy and very protective. Christopher is seen as nosey again and quite the liar. He lies about real events that have happened but tricks his dad into believing something else. The last scene shows the soft side between both Christopher and the father. It shows that they actually do have love for one another, as the mood of the novel shifts to a more soft side of each character.
In the novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, the scenes explained help shift and move the plot forward. These scenes give Christopher the confidence and the will to go solve the mystery of Wellington’s murder, find his mother, and write the book that is being discussed. All of this confidence comes from his frightening father. After seeing that his father has been hiding everything from him his whole life, really motivates Christopher to go out and find and discover things on his own.The plot moves forward because of the confidence and will from the scenes described.

In the Curious incident of the dog in the night-time, Christopher and his father have many interactions that involve love and violence. Many readers claim to despise the father for being violent towards Christopher, but many readers do not understand the situation Mr. Boone is in.
He is a single father taking care of a difficult child, he tries his best to provide Christopher with only the best. Even though with all the shouting and violent actions Mr. Boone wants Christopher to know that he loves him very dearly and that we are all human and make many mistakes.

In this page Haddon writes the father being very magnanimous towards Christopher, because he hit him, Mr. Boone wants to be forgiving so he takes him to the zoo to prove he is actually sorry.
In this scene between Christopher and Mr. Boone, Mr. Boone just wants Christopher to know that he loves him and he only shouts because he does not want Christopher to get in trouble or hurt.
The relationship between the father and Christopher is very strong because the father is able to express his feelings and emotions towards Christopher making it a strong relationship.

In this scene of the story, Christopher finds letters written from his mom to Christopher. When he opens the first letter Christopher is crushed when he sees the date written on it. He finally realizes that his mom had not had a heart attack, but she had left him for Mr. Shears.
At this point in the story Christopher had lost trust in his father and there relationship went south after. Christopher started to lose trust and fear his father.
Not a very strong relationship when one starts to lie.

Hadron starts to describe the thoughts Christopher has of his father. Christopher is so frightened after he learns that his father killed Wellington, Christopher starts to make plans on where to move and he has very limited options but decides to find and stay with his mom.
This father-son relationship is very messed up, mostly because Christopher is scared of his dad and his dad can not contain him most of the time.
